How it all began...
In August 1853 Rev. H. H. Durant and Rev. Lewis Scarborough held religious services under a brush arbor at the site of the current Balls Creek Campground. Local Methodists in the community established the campmeeting and campground in that year. Those who attended the first campmeeting made their way there via dusty dirt roads in covered wagons. They remained onsite for the duration of the campmeeting living in their covered wagon or in canvas tents. About ten or twelve families built permanent wooden structures or “tents” for the purpose of the 1853 services.

Campmeeting is a symphony of senses...friendly faces, the smell of country ham, the taste of homemade ice cream, the sound of the rain on the tin roof, or the chill in the air as we know autumn approaches. Enjoy a few pictures to remind you of all that Campmeeting is.
