Food and Hygiene Item Drive

725-pounds.png
Congrats to everyone for making a difference! We collected over 725 pounds of supplies for folks in our community who may need help! You're all awesome!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As part of the "A Campground Christmas" event on December 11 and 12, we will be holding a food/hygiene item drive for The Christian Food Pantry of Sherrills Ford & Clothes Closet located at Hopewell United Methodist Church.

The drop-off point will be tent #71. Look for the black and yellow bins.

There is normally an increase in the amount of donations to this important charity right be before Thanksgiving as people are in a giving mindset. However, as we enter January, the needs in our community remain, but the shelves become bare very quickly. Our local Boy Scout troop (Troop 327 at Mt. Pleasant) recently participated in "Scouting for Food" and had a chance to talk with the staff at the Food Pantry about their needs. Here are some of things they were told.

Many of those in need in our area might not have access to a traditional stove. Some are living in campers, RVs, or even tents! Complete meals that don't have to be cooked on a stove are incredibly useful to these folks. While all donations are welcome, these items were specifically asked for.
  • Hormel Compleats
  • Dinty Moore canned meals with pop-top lids
  • Kid-friendly meals with pop-top lids or microwaveable meals such as Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs
  • Beanee Weenee - with pop-top lids
  • microwaveable mac & cheese

Here are a couple of other things to think about when purchasing food items to donate. Take a quick look at the directions on the package to make sure that additional items aren't needed to complete the recipe. For example, some boxed meals require meat, eggs, milk, or oil to prepare them. Families without access to these items can't use these meals.

Additional items that are always needed:

  • laundry detergent (pods or dry)
  • feminine hygiene items
  • diapers and wipes
  • dry pet food
  • hygiene items - toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, etc.
  • clothing - men, women, children, baby
  • blankets

Thanks in advance for being a blessing to those in our community who might need a little extra help this time of year!
